Alameda County Community Connect - Homeless Resource & Job Fair Thursday, July 18
The Alameda County Social Services Agency (ACSSA) will be hosting its first Alameda County Community Connect ● Homeless Resource & Job Fair on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. This event will be held in partnership with the Alameda County Workforce Development Board, the Alameda County Probation Department, the City of Oakland, Alameda County Board of Supervisors’ President Nate Miley, Oakland City Council Members Treva Reid and Noel Gallo, and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
The Alameda County Homeless Resource & Job Fair aims to address the needs of the unhoused population who are challenged with navigating through bureaucracy to secure the necessary resources and services to become gainfully employed, obtain housing, and move towards economic stability and self-sufficiency. This event will bring together – in one location, for one full day – multiple agencies, community-based organizations, and employers throughout Alameda County who provide support services to the most vulnerable populations. Partner agency staff and mobile street teams have been actively conducting outreach to get the word out to those with limited access to phones, internet, and other modes of communication.
Representatives from over 100 partners and employers will participate in this event including county and city agencies/departments, community-based organizations, employers, and Cal State East Bay’s Project Rebound. The event is free and open to all community members in need of support - no registration is required.
Some of the services to be offered include job readiness/one-on-one job coaching, interview attire and free professional headshots, portable showers and washer/dryers, and medical and dental services. Attendees will have an opportunity to win prizes, ranging from gift cards to laptops.
“Everyone deserves the dignity and stability that comes with having a home. Connecting our unhoused neighbors to vital resources is crucial for fostering a healthier, more supportive community for all,” says Nate Miley, Alameda County Supervisor (District 4) and Board President.
SSA Director Andrea Ford extends a welcome to all community members who could benefit from attendance: “Empowerment begins with opportunity. Join the Alameda County Social Services Agency and our partners and stakeholders at the County’s Homeless Resource & Job Fair, where every connection made is a step towards rebuilding lives and communities.”
At 12:00 pm, a press conference will be held; confirmed speakers include Nate Miley, Alameda County Board of Supervisors, District 4; Treva Reid, Oakland City Council Member, District 7; Kahlil Bostick, InsightGlobal; Joyce Guy, Executive Director, West Oakland Job & Resource Center; Raymond Lankford, CEO, Oakland Private Industry Council; Rhonda Boykin, Director, Alameda County Workforce Development Board; and Shadeequa M. Smith, Probation Re-Entry Services Coordinator, Alameda County Probation Department.
